Their first watercolor came about when Gary had just finished a number of commissions and said, “I just want to paint something I don’t have to.” Deb’s pouring style is to do an abstract and then find something real that integrates into it. Deb gave Gary one of the pourings and went off to teach. A half hour later, Deb said, “They were supposed to be green grapes!” Gary’s reply was, “Well, they are not green anymore!” The grapes were transitioned from red to green to complete the painting.
